Yes, we have two sizes, 8"x10" and 11"x14". The costs of the proofs are $5 and $9, refundable when you approve your order for printing. All you pay for is the $8.95 shipping charge. These images are "watermarked" with the word PROOF, but they are suitable for you to see whether we are able to properly reproduce your original or if adjustments need to be made to your file. Each of our printers has been carefully profiled and set up to accurately reproduce the files that you send. Aside from cropping, we do not adjust ("Photoshop") these files unless specifically requested to do so by you. We print what you send us unless we discover a condition that we perceive as a flaw, in which case, we will call you to discuss what we are seeing.
We use Epson 9800 and 9880 printers. They allow us to print on paper or canvas rolls that can be up to 44" wide. In most cases, this limits the size one of the dimensions can be to 40" or less. The other dimension can be up to 38 feet.
We use Epson Ultrachrome K3 inks. These are water soluble pigmented inks that significantly outperform lesser ink technologies, providing consistently stable colors. We always use fresh, new cartridges, not refills. These inks are long lasting ("archival" or "museum quality" are common phrases), and they enable true color fidelity, gloss level, and scratch resistance. This breakthrough ink technology also makes it the perfect choice for professional neutral and toned black and white prints with higher density levels and virtually no metamerism.
We coat all canvases unless special instructions are given not to. All inks on canvas are fragile and subject to UV radiation. To increase scratch and UV radiation protection we think coating (lacquering) has enduring value. The coating that we use is a proprietary blend that produces a finish halfway between gloss and matte. By special request, you can specify a gloss finish or a matte finish. Our coating allows you to embellish or paint over (except with water colors) the print in a variety of ways, and a lot of people do so. We do not coat paper because those pieces are usually displayed under glass which can have UV blockers in it.
We strongly urge you to get your original professionally scanned. If you do not know someone locally who does it, inquire within the Art Department at a nearby university. You can also visit a high end camera store near you that caters to professional photographers. They probably have several customers who do scanning.
If you live in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, we would be happy to discuss your project with you and scan it for reproduction in our studio. See our HIGH RESOLUTION SCANNING PAGE for details. Due to the risks of loss and damage in shipment, we prefer not to receive your originals by truck, mail, UPS, etc. at our facility.
